Let’s Ban Knives Too

Posted by Troy on 27th March 2018 in Current Events, Human Nature, Political

They asked a 13ish-year-old why he was marching for their lives.  He responded “My brother was shot.”

Okay, so if your brother was stabbed, shall we try to ban knives?

I know what you are going to say… “That… DIFFERENT!” which is pretty much the hallmark of someone that doesn’t have a good explanation for how they feel.

I think we can all agree that no one NEEDS a knife that is greater than 2″ in length.  With a little patience, a paring knife will do anything you need to do.  So why do we have to have this high capacity… sorry… longer knives?  For CONVENIENCE?  Because you  think it’s fun to cut huge swaths of meat?  YOU MAKE ME SICK!

Can we agree that personal tragedy is a stupid reason to make any legislation?  Every year, 20 babies fall into 5 gallon buckets and drown.  Do we make it a law that people have to bust these buckets in half or that they come with detachable bottoms to prevent such deaths?  Or do we accept that it’s a tragedy and feel sorry for the families that it happens to.

You may say, “You care more about your right to buy an AR-15 than about kids’s lives!”  But that is not the case.  I don’t want to ban the AR-15 because it wouldn’t really do anything.  If he couldn’t get an AR-15, he’d use shotguns and pistols or a host of other choices.  If guns were not available, a suicide vest or some other horrifying concepts would suffice.  So why should I give up my right when it will not accomplish ANYTHING?  Just to say “We did something!”  Yes… we did something useless and removed a right in the process.  That doesn’t seem a noble goal.  It seems more like an act of vanity than anything.

You say, “You have been brainwashed by the NRA!  They’re just a tool of the gun lobby!”  Nah.  I joined the NRA because I love and understand the 2nd Amendment and want it protected.  Frankly, if they are serving the gun lobby, I flat out don’t care.  All I care about is that the 2nd Amendment stay intact.  I didn’t embrace the 2nd Amendment because of the NRA.  I embraced the NRA because of the 2nd Amendment.  Get it straight.

You say, “We’re not talking about doing away with the 2nd Amendment!  We’re just walking about COMMON SENSE gun control.”  Well, most of what you call “common sense” actually wouldn’t solve a damn thing…so I kinda question if it is really common sense.  But here’s a serious question: “If it’s NOT about doing away with the 2nd Amendment… why are you demanding FEDERAL gun legislation?”  You see, the states can do pretty much whatever they want.  You mean to tell me that Miami, FL has the same needs as Cody, WY?  THEY DON’T.  Why not let them decide what gun laws make sense for them?  The greatest thing is that, in so doing, you don’t have to actually disregard the 2nd Amendment because states have a very large leeway in their gun regulations.  So why is it so very important that it happen at the Federal level?   Because the end goal is total disarmament.  And that is why we will never give an inch.

Hoggin’ the Spotlight

Posted by Troy on 20th March 2018 in Current Events, Human Nature, Political

I am utterly sick of David Hogg (and Emma Gonzalez for that matter).  These two are utterly uninformed.  Insulated by those with an agenda in mind.  They pack panels of “victims” who happen to be kids.  Their scree can be summed up like this, “Guns should be banned!  You are not allowed to disagree with me because someone shot up my school!”  If they are feeling particularly disrespectful, they may say you have blood on your hands or that you’re the “bitch of the NRA.”

When I was in high school, I actually did a petition AGAINST gun control.  True story.  Yeah, I was an odd kid.  However, tons of other kids in my school signed it, pretty much anyone I asked.  My point?  Have ya noticed that 100% of school kids WANT gun control?  Wow!  That’s amazing!  100%…or so CNN would have ya believe.

If we let kids run the joint, we may have open borders or the age of consent being 12 or the drinking age being lowered to 13 or communism or any host of stupid ideas.  Frankly…we are the adults.  We run things.  We raise kids to be NEW adults.  When that happens, they get a say.  There’s a reason why it works this way.  Because, frankly, kids are unwise.  They have to grow in wisdom.  Letting the unwise rule is…well…unwise!

I’d challenge David or his ilk to an actual debate any day of the week.  I’d destroy them.

I do congratulate David in his pursuit to convert his personal tragedy into a career path.  I assume in another five years, he will be just another talking head blowing the hot, vapid air of opinion, devoid of any fact, but full of emotion.

Of Dog Fighting and Gun Control

Posted by Troy on 22nd February 2018 in Current Events, Political

People fight dogs.  It happens.  They take them as puppies and train them to fight to the death.  It is horrible, but it happens.  However, when a dog fighting ring is discovered, we do not say, “It is horrible how some people mistreat dogs.  We can prevent these abuses if we just get rid of all the dogs in America.”  No.  We understand that dogs are a good thing.  We understand that the people that abused them are the the bad ones.  We punish the humans for their offenses.  Even the most vicious dog in these circumstances is innocent of any crime other than being abused by a human with evil in his heart.  And yes, there have been cases, while decidedly rare in modern times, of murder by dog.

Statistically speaking, there are about 33,000 gun deaths in America per year.  Over half are suicides.  Once you whittle it down, it comes down to about 5,000 homicides a year.  Statistically speaking, this is nothing if you want to compare it to drug overdoses, death by medical malpractice, or a host of other causes where a fraction of effort could reduce deaths by 10% and easily outpace cutting gun deaths to zero.  You can say, “Every gun death is a tragedy,” and I will disagree.  When a rapist is killed by an innocent woman who is being attacked, that is NOT a tragedy.

Going back to the dog analogy, I compared these school shooters to a dog that’s been kicked.  I liked that analogy.  Let’s go back to the dog fighting example.  Some of these dogs, when they are discovered, are too vicious and have to be put down.  That is what these kids are.  Maybe the bullying had pushed them to these dark deeds, much the same way the abuse pushes these dogs to be killers, but that does not excuse their nature.  Their nature, at that point, is real and must be dealt with.  However, when they put these dogs down, there is nothing but sadness at what must be done.

That is how we need to execute people when it is necessary.  There should be no joy.  No self-righteous anger.  There should be a calm sadness.  It should be more like “And so it’s come to this…”  A sense of pity that we have failed these individuals.  We failed to identify that they needed help.  We failed to steer them back to the righteous path.  In so doing, we may learn to identify those who need help, to prevent such failures in the future.  This would be my fondest hope.

School Shooting Solutions

Posted by Troy on 15th February 2018 in Current Events, Political

This kid was on Youtube saying that he was going to be a professional school shooter.  He was reported to the FBI.  Everyone that knew this kid knew that he was dangerous.  They knew that this was going to happen.  But I guess the FBI was too interested tracking down Russian collusion than following up on some kid threatening to shoot cops and school kids.

This kid was screaming out for help, and no one listened.  That’s why 17 people are dead at his hands.  Plain and simple.

You want to stop these things?  Identify people with mental issues and get them they help they need.  I am also a fan of increased CCW.  You say that schools should be a gun free zone.  Yeah, it was…until he brought a gun there.  Then it was suddenly NOT a gun free zone.  At larger schools, one or two armed guards would be a good idea as well.  Frankly, I am sure that there are plenty of retired military that would gladly volunteer their time tot he community in this service.

If you want to point to the “assault rifle,” as the issue, I hate to break this to you… a sawed off shotgun and a 1911 .45 would have had a similar body count in those packed conditions.  So either be honest and say you want to total gun ban or understand that your solution really isn’t a solution.  Let’s also be honest, there are over a million “assault rifles” in circulation.  How do you plan on getting rid of those?  Are you going to kick in people’s doors and take them?  And what if the people take offense at that and are willing to die over it?  How many law-abiding gun owners are you willing to turn into criminals and subject to fascist tactics and/or kill?  Just curious.  I want to have an honest conversation here.

Ask the people of France how their ultra-strict gun laws protected them from the AK-47s used by the Muslim extremists.

It’s like I always say: “Guns should be illegal.  That way, no one will be able to get them…just like drugs.”

A Real Conversation about Gun Control

Posted by Troy on 3rd October 2017 in Current Events, Political

All the late night comedians… sorry… experts demand a real conversation about gun control.  So… lets have one!!!!!

1 – The GOP is not beholden to the NRA.  Oh…they want to pretend that the Republicans are…but they are beholden to their constituents.  You see, we gun owners joined the NRA because we love our Second Amendment.  We do not love the Second Amendment because the NRA tells us to.  Instead, we joined them because we already did love our Second Amendment.  That is why the Republicans do not want to seek further gun control, because it would royally piss us off and they would lose in a primary.  What I will say is that this makes me suspect that the Left is beholden to THEIR special interest.  In other words, if you think the other side is beholden to a lobby group and not the voters, it is probably because your side is beholden to a lobby group over their voters.  This would explain why the Left is for open borders despite it hurting the black citizens they claim to care about.

2 – This shooter (as most shooters in recent history) acquired their guns subject to background checks.  In fact, all the measures the Left demands would not have prevented these shootings.  Assault weapons ban?  Did nothing to reduce crime.  Background checks?  Don’t seem to be working.  The Left demands we do SOMETHING!  Sorry… but why do something if it is going to be ineffective?  That’s just stupid.

3 – The Second Amendment is about protecting yourself from the Government.  It is not about hunting.  It is not about self-defense.  Those are nice perks, but they are not the main reason.  I am much more worried about an out of control government than I am about a random madman.  As long as that is the case, you will never convert me to the side of gun control.

4 – As far as mental illness goes, there is a reason why I am hesitant to support these measures.  I actually know people that suffer from depression and anxiety, and they refuse to get help.  Why?  Because they know it will go on their record and they fear the government will use it to take their guns.  Also, if a spouse or family member suffers from these conditions, their rights would be forfeited as well.  As such, I can understand why they wont’ get help, and that is a shame.

5 – If you don’t like people having the right to keep and bear arms, then you have an option.  Amend the Constitution.  Until you do so, you have no right to abridge the freedom to keep and bear arms.  But they will never do this because they know they cannot win this argument.  The Left wants a totalitarian government.  They just want one they agree with.  Could you imagine if the Right sought the same liberty to change the First Amendment at whim?  The right to an abortion is nowhere in the Constitution, but they will declare that that is absolute.  Amazing, really.

6 – All the people calling for gun control are in big cities.  They are not isolated by large tracts of land.  Police are nearby.  Or they live in gated, nice communities.  Or they have their own armed guards.  What about the rest of us?

7 – More people are stabbed to death in any given year over being killed by long guns.

8 – They are being disingenuous.  Granted, an AR-15 has the range can accessories (drum clips, etc) to make the long range, open venue ambush a reality.  But do you think the Left would stop the push to gun control if it was just a guy showing up in a crowded store on black Friday and using a sawed off shotgun/pistols/etc to kill people?  Of course not.  Let’s be honest: any gun control measure must at the end of the game conclude with a total gun ban.  Otherwise, it would be a waste of time.

9 – Which brings me to the final point.  Guns should be made illegal…that way, no one can buy them…like drugs.  Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Obama Using Human Tragedy to Push Gun Control… AGAIN

Posted by Troy on 15th June 2016 in Current Events, Political

Never let a crisis go to waste, right?  With every mass shooting, they make a new push for gun control.  Here are the facts:

An assault weapon is an effective weapon, but other weapons are available that would have had similar results (such as a sawed off 12-gauge).  If they can’t get an assault weapon, they will buy other weapons or make a bomb or poison gas, etc.  As such, an assault weapons ban will not work.  That’s not even assuming that they won’t go to the black market and get one anyway.  If you can buy crack, what makes you think you can’t buy an AR-15 after they are made illegal?

The Terrorist/No-Fly list.  The issue with this is that you get on this list by them just putting you on there.  You have no right to see the “evidence” facing you.  It makes getting off the list impossible.  What’s to prevent them from saying that right-wing bloggers, tea partiers, etc, are all terrorists.  Boom.  You’re done.  The NRA has said they support this assuming that the FBI investigates you and settles the case.  So I will go one further.  If you are put on a no-fly/terrorist list, they have to take you to court and they have to settle the case one way or the other after showing you the evidence they have against you.  They have 30 days in order to do this.  After this, they pay you a $75,000 a day penalty like the EPA charged a Wyoming man that dug a home-made pond on his land.

I remind you, the Orlando terrorist bought his guns legally.  The San Bernardino terrorists had a friend buy theirs.  This is why gun laws are going to be largely ineffective.

I refuse to give up my rights.  Doing so will not make us any safer.  Let them live without armed protection for a while and see how they like it.

Orlando Shooting Used to Push Gun Control

Posted by Troy on 12th June 2016 in Current Events, Human Nature, Political

I got to wake up to the news that 20 people were killed last night at a night club.  That turned into 50 killed and 53 wounded.  And of course, I instantly thought “Obviously a Southern white male demanding adherence to the Constitution,” much like any sane person would.  But it actually turned out to be a Muslim terrorist.  Ya know…starting to get annoyed by the word “extremist.”  Just throwing that out there.  Just smacks of PC-ness that is unwarranted at this point in the game.  And, of course, I made a prediction that Obama’s response would be “We have to get rid of guns, people.”  And that’s pretty much what he did.

So, of course, we have to put up with them importing more Muslims into our country (seriously look up the immigration rates since 9/11…illogically, we’ve increased the visas to these countries).  So after these shootings, instead of examining how we look at mosques that we know are espousing extreme view points, we are talking about banning guns.  Shall we forget that the mosques raided after the Paris attacks had a stash of AK-47s and ammo?  Or, as I like to say… “Guns should be illegal so criminals can’t get them…just like drugs.”  You don’t think these animals wouldn’t get guns or explosives or poisons or whatever they want to use to kill us?

Obama asks if we want to be this type of country.  So, that led me to ask…what would it take before I decided that I would be willing to give up my right to keep and bear arms?  I guess the first thing I would have to see is that all of our government officials and buildings give up their own guns and armed security guards and fancy alarm systems and live like the average American.  If they feel safe enough to live like that for ten years…we can talk, but really I wouldn’t go for it even then.

The right to keep and bear arms is the Second Amendment for a reason.  They said “Shall not be infringed” for a reason.  I’m not willing to give up my Constitutional rights just because of these terrorists.

San Bernardino Shooting

Posted by Troy on 2nd December 2015 in Current Events

Well, it took the Democratic candidates about ten seconds to blame the San Bernardino shootings on the NRA and lax gun laws.  Of course…I mean, this was San Bernardino.  Not Georgia or Texas or Montana or something…but whatever, sure…it’s gun laws.

So we all had to sit there and watch for hours while the media and people tried not to say the obvious…that this is Islamic terrorism.  Of course it’s terrorism.  You have an attack very similar to what happened in Paris with no motivation other than the slaughter of defenseless people.  But we can’t say it’s Muslim Terrorists…that would be stereotyping.  Let’s be honest…in an act of terror against random, defenseless people…bet Muslim.  It’s a safe bet.

I am looking forward to Obama’s speech.  I think it will go something like this:

“Now, let’s not rush to judgement.  We should not demean an entire religion for the acts of a few people.  Islam is a religion of peace, and anyone that kills innocent people is not a true Muslim.  That being said, let’s demean all guns because they were the tool of choice for some false-Muslims to kill innocent people.  The only way for us to be safe is to ban all guns and get the Syrian refugees over IMMEDIATELY!”

The Democratic Debate Results

Posted by Troy on 13th October 2015 in Uncategorized

Cold dead hands, yo!  Cold dead hands…just sayin’.  Most of the people on the stage want people to be able to sue gun manufacturers for wrongful deaths.  Let us be honest: This is just an attempt to ban guns.  Anytime someone is murdered, the gun manufacturer will be sued.  They will be forced out of business by trial lawyers.  If you support this, I have one question: what is the difference between being able to sue gun manufacturers like is and knife makers for stabbings or Jack Daniels for drunk driving deaths (it goes on and on).  If you are for this, you are devoid of any logic in your desire for “by any means necessary” disarming.

Good gawd…this was the most boring thing I have ever seen.  These are the slowest talking, most boring people I have ever seen in my entire life…  So let’s go down the list.

Hillary Clinton:  ”Fascist.” She was handled with kid gloves, of course.  If I heard her say “First female President” one more time…  ”How would you be different than Obama?”  ”I have boobs!”  Okay…  Let’s be honest. The chick is a neo-fascist.  She wants to control everything.  She wants to spy on you.  And like all other people on the stage (excluding one), she thinks she can get the wealthy to pay for everything.  This is impossible.  We cannot do what the other “advanced” nations do.  You know why?  Because WE DEFEND THE —-ING WORLD!  If we tried, we would have to gut the military completely.  This would allow all the bad countries to do whatever they want (as they have already started doing anyway).  Be ready for a lot more blood in the future.

Bernie Sanders:  ”Socialist.”  But hey, at least he’s true to who he is.  He would be an utter disaster for this country on all fronts, but at least he’s being honest with who he is.  Give him that.  I think it’s cute how he thinks the Russian people will hold Putin accountable.  It’s Russia.  They LIKE totalitarians.  It’s part of their social makeup.  Why do people try to play with the rest of the world under the assumption that the rest of the world is like America?  It’s not.

Mike O’Malley: “Socialist.”  He strikes me as a weakling that likes to talk a big game.  He went on and on about guns.  Of course, all that he proposed wouldn’t have done anything to stop any of the shootings, but that doesn’t stop Democrats.  Yes.  The DO want your guns.  What is the point of any gun control if the end purpose isn’t total confiscation?  Leave it up to the States.  The Feds don’t have to do ANYTHING for guns.

Lincoln Chafee:  Ya know… nice to see an old school Liberal.  I didn’t like how he pinned his “bad vote” on his dead dad.  Not cool, dude, but overall, not the worst guy up there (but damn if that’s a low bar…).  Still, anti-gun.  Tax and Spend.

Jim Webb:  Holy cow!  Ya know, if he won the Presidency, I wouldn’t be happy, but I would be terrified outta my mind.  Seems like a rational dude that has thought out his positions and doesn’t feel the need to toe the party line.  I also like that he admitted you have a right to defend yourself.   He was the only one that said “all lives matter.”  That’s a new lithmus test.  If you cannot say “all lives matter,” you are weak-willed slime, and I can’t have any respect for you.

Long Live the Constitution!

The Oregon Shooter and Gun Control

Posted by Troy on 5th October 2015 in Current Events, Political

So another mass shooting occurred.  It took Obama about two minutes to make a statement.  Of course, his statement was:  ”This has become routine.  What I’m going to say has become routine…”  Yeah, so shut the ____ up.  Don’t you get it?  We do not want what you are selling.  Of course, the usual things came up.

“We must have greater gun control!  We’re not after all guns, we just want some common sense gun control.”

Okay, well, what would you have recommended then?  Perhaps an assault rifle ban or universal background checks or a registry or something like that.  Okay, well, how would that have stopped this?  Do you think that he couldn’t have killed just as many or more people with a sawed off shotgun?  Of course, hammers kill more people in a year than assault rifles.  Most gun deaths come from handguns.  Over half of all deaths are suicides (more on that later).  Even taking those out, hoodlums with pistols are much more of a problem than “assault rifles.”

“No one should be able to get these kinds of weapons.”

Right, so lets make them illegal.  That way, no one can get them.  Just like drugs.  Face-plant.  Move on.

“We could save the lives of those who commit suicide.”

Interesting that the Democrats are all over assisted suicide, but somehow think it’s their higher purpose to ban guns to prevent suicide.  Ends justify the means?  Of course.  They don’t care if you live or die.  Hell, if you are an older, Southern White Male, they’d probably prefer you die.  Just saying.

“You are more likely to be harmed by a gun in your house than protected by it.”

Oh, that suicide statistic keeps paying dividends, doesn’t it?!  Of course, the people trying to take your guns don’t live in the ghetto or out in the woods by themselves.  Most of them live in well-to-do neighborhoods with dedicated police forces protecting them (assuming they don’t have their own security staff).  But hey, they’ll keep you safe.

Hillary made some comment about how we are willing to accept the occasional act of mass murder as the price of having the right to keep and bear arms.  I’ll tell you the truth.  YEP, I am.  I am much more afraid that our government will go ape-shit crazy and start oppressing the hell out of us than I am about a murderer.  I have a feeling, if you ask the average American which he had more fear of: the government running amok or that he may be a victim of a violent crime, I think more people would fear the first.

I am unwilling to give up the right to keep and bear arms because it the the last line defense of life and liberty.  You can quote me any crime statistic you want.  That will never change this fact.

Also, laws will not make you safer.  If it did, there would be no rape.  There would be no murder.  There would be no child molestation.  The only thing that makes you safe is morality.  Interestingly enough, the Left is all about undermining the one thing that will make our society safer while expanding the thing which makes us less safe (the government).

Long Live the Constitution!
