The Lie of Free Trade

Posted by Troy on 28th January 2017 in Current Events, Political

Trump talks about free trade and fair trade.

All the conservative pundits talk about free trade as some sort of holy attainment.

Now I’m about to bring the truth.

There is no such thing as fair trade.

What do I mean by that?  Well, first of all, each country has different resources and cultures.  Some are going to be better positioned than others.  For instance, when Adam Smith wrote the Wealth of Nations, he spoke about China and how poorly developed it was compared to European countries.  The main cause for this was the governmental, institutional, and cultural powers that existed at the time.  He remarked how China’s economy had remained virtually stagnant for centuries and would probably continue as such until such time as the features changed and allowed China to expand.  As such, one country will be more powerful and will have greater trading power than another.  America is this country.  As the most industrious and wealthy country on the planet, it controls much in regards to trade.

All that aside, what do these free-trade puritans mean?

Ahem.  Well, by free-trade, what we mean is that there should be no artificial barriers to trade between countries.  More or less, we are against boycotts, banned goods, and tariffs.

Oh.  Well, that’s good… but what about the minimum wage?

Pardon?

You know.  The minimum wage, OSHA, the EPA, regulations, standards, and so on and so on and so on.

I’m sorry…I really don’t follow.

Well, you want America to have free trade with China.  What do we have in America?  We have minimum wage laws.  China doesn’t [at least, not to the extent that we do].  China manipulates their currency.  China dumps coal pollution all over the place.  China doesn’t care about worker safety.  China doesn’t care if their products are made with toxic materials.  Given this, China is sure to make a product at less cost than an American product.  So how is this free-trade?  By declaring free-trade in an environment where two countries have vastly different economic environments, one will be the winner and the other will be the loser.  In this case, America will be the loser.  And even if the American product somehow survives, Congress will pass a law making the American product illegal, forcing people to buy the Chinese product, but forbid American companies from making the Chinese product because it is too toxic.  [Seriously, this is EXACTLY what happened when Congress made the freakin' incandescent bulb illegal].

Now, if you wanted to remove all the barriers in America and do away with the minimum wage and other such things and let the market decide how much a job pays; let the market decide how much pollution that a company can get away with before the citizens say “enough;” then I can go along with this; but you don’t want to do that.  Little known fact, Switzerland doesn’t have a minimum wage, but they have a very high standard of living.

Here’s an idea for free-trade/fair-trade that levels the playing field.  Why don’t we set tariffs based on the country?  For instance, Canada and the United States are very similar, so we will trade freely with them.  But why don’t we have standards that say “You have to have a reasonable minimum wage, or we will hit you with a 3% tariff.  If you produce more than x tons of carbon emissions per 100,000 citizens, we hit you with a 4% tariff.  This would actually make for fairer trade while also promoting our values.

Right now, the concept of free-trade is a globalist ideal.  The current set up favors a “spread the wealth” mentality as it outsources the production of more developed countries into less developed countries.  The side-effects of this is that it enforces the welfare state.  As these manufacturing jobs are lost, we will get cheaper goods.  Yey!  I can buy a pillow for $2 less.  Whoop dee doo.  The stockholders of the corporations get richer.  Of course, there are more unemployed and under-employed.  So you have to have a high tax on the corporate shareholders and redistribute the wealth so that pillow labor that you put out of work will have enough cash to buy that pillow for $2 less from China that will give him cancer because they used lead dust to clean the feathers.  Yey!

The US stole California from Mexico

Posted by Troy on 6th May 2013 in Current Events, Political

I get tired of hearing this.  We didn’t steal the land.  We killed a hellalotta people to get that land.  That’s called war.  It’s called conquest.  It was the way things were done back then and would still be done that way if it were NOT for the United States being the only super power on the planet.  Anyone who think that it’s evil that we got California this way, let me break down the cold truth to you.  Should someone ever invade us and win, try whining about it to them and see where that gets you.

Pathway for Citizenship to Illegals

Posted by Troy on 14th November 2012 in Current Events, Political

The political truth of our generation is that we have a race of people who are defending criminals and promoting them, and our politicians are utterly scared to do anything about it.  Fine, so be it.  We cannot deport them (solely because politicians either want to use this voting block or fear this voting block over actually honoring the law).  Ergo, they have to stay.  If this is the case, the following MUST be done.

1)  We must seal the boarder.  Put every active duty military personnel stationed in the US guarding the boarder.  What else do they have to do?

2)  Force registration.  If you don’t register by 12/31, you’re out, no amnesty for you.

3)  A fine must be levied, and it must hurt.  I recommend at least $25,000.  This is to be paid via tax levy on their wages and tax returns.

4)  These people can NEVER become US Citizens.  They came here illegally.  They cannot become citizens.  If they wish to be citizens, they must go and come back.  At best, they can become permanent residents.

5)  Anyone hiring anyone who is not a member of the registered group is to be punished severely.

6)  This group is allowed to be paid sub-minimum wage.  If we wish, we can set a floor of 75% of minimum.

7)  This group will never be allowed for Social Security and Medicare and other programs.

Of course, if we do all this, the Democrats will just come in behind and make them citizens and grant them all the rights and privileges there of, but it’s a nice thought at least.

Immigration Issue

Posted by Troy on 11th November 2012 in Political

After this last election, it is apparent that neither side will have any stomach to tackle the immigration issue.  We never really had this type of problem before.  Rogue crossings from Europe were difficult to pull off at best.  Now we have a subset of the population willing to hold the law hostage with their vote.  I actually wouldn’t be against open boarders…except for the free stuff.  However, we’re never going to get rid of the free stuff, so here is what we are going to do, and it’s really the only reasonable thing left to do:

Anyone that is here must register with bio-metrics to be eligible for this program.  Anyone under this program cannot attain full citizenship.  This person must pay a fee of $25,000.  This is much more than anyone else who immigrates here legally.  Every year, they are required to file a tax return.  Using e-verify, employers will be required to withhold a high percentage of their income.  This will generate a refund due on their return.  These refunds will eventually eat away at fee.

There is a reason why we don’t just open the floodgates to the rest of the world.  The real reason is that people are supposed to come here and assimilate, but  people are no longer doing it.  They are coming here and then they are secluding themselves.  They are refraining from learning our language (English).  They proudly display their old flag.  As such, they never learn what it means to be American.  They never learn the Constitution.  They don’t learn the history.  That has got to change… however, the Democrats would like things just the way they are.  Obama and Clinton and the other driving forces of the Democratic party believe in global governance.  They believe in the UN.  They believe in LOST.  They believe in multinational organizations.  They believe in a global currency.  They believe in a global carbon tax.  The list goes on and one.  Read the writing on the wall.

Fast and Furious

As I predicted, so it has come to pass.  Eric Holder will have to step down as Attorney General.  If he doesn’t, they will keep digging, and there can be only one answer:  The Feds let the guns walk to paint a narrative that private gun sales are leading to guns in the hands of criminals.  This would dovetail into the UN plan for a small arms bill, and would clamp down on private gun ownership.  However, they made one fatal mistake: they put the operation in the hands of the single most incompetent administration in the history of the country.  Seriously, they couldn’t get even this to work?  Of course, if they had, they would have told us the majority of Americans are in favor of the bill/treaty/ban, and in reality, the majority of Americans could care less.  Seriously, would anyone give up their freedoms because of something happening in any other country?  If so, they’re idiots and shouldn’t have a say anyway.

Prediction: Holder will step down

Posted by Troy on 11th October 2011 in Current Events, Political

The President no longer has both Houses looking out for him.  The Republicans are going to continue to chip away at this Fast and Furious thing.  They will come out at best looking totally incompetent or at worst pure evil.  The path will eventually lead to Obama.  Holder will have to step down prior to the election in an attempt to shield Obama during the election.
