Consolidation

One thing Obama discussed in his 2011 State of the Union address that worries me is Consolidation of power inside the government.  Now, there are two possible outcomes from the consolidation of powers.  The possible good outcome is that they are able to consolidate powers, reduce departments, cut federal jobs, streamline procedures, and reduce duplication of duties and costs.  What could also happen is that it ends up creating federal departments which are so powerful they can rule by executive fiat.  They are already trying to expand the powers of the EPA and other departments to circumvent the Constitution and rob people of their rights.  If we make them larger and more powerful, this aim will be easier to achieve.

I heard a story on the radio, where a surveyor was hired by a black family who owned 8 acres on Sapelo Island. They wanted the surveyor to find the tract of land, mark it, and take them to see their family estate. When the surveyor returned, he told them he found the land, and would take them to see it. They boarded a boat, and headed out towards Sapelo Island. While in the water, they were stopped by a GA DNR officer, who inquired on what they were doing. When the surveyor explain their business, the DNR agent told them they could not travel to island. That the state claims ownership of all the intercoastal islands that are isolated (no roads), and you must prove to the state (GA) you own land in order to gain access.

Dont know if the story is true or not, but it gives new meaning to “Welcome to Georgia, owned and operated by the DNR”.
