When the CIA becomes the KGB – The Michael Flynn Saga

Posted by Troy on 15th February 2017 in Entertainment, Political

I hate to break it to CNN and the Democrats, but I have a feeling that most people are not all that concerned about Michael Flynn’s phone call.  It seems common sense and natural that an in-coming administration would talk to diplomats to establish relationships and start forging ahead.  The people really upset about this are the same people that chose to look the other way at the Fast and Furious, IRS scandal, Benghazi, the Clinton Foundation, and countless other gross violations.

Release the transcript.

That’s how you know that whatever said was pretty tame.  In this “Anti-Trump” environment, if it was actually something noteworthy, it would have been plastered all over the front page.

In regards to Michael Flynn, I will wait to pass any judgement until I see the transcript.  I assume that this is politicians playing politics.  Until I see some sort of proof that he actually said anything of note, I will not get excited.

However, what makes me afraid is this:

People are claiming that un-elected government workers should thwart foes foreign and domestic. Well, I agree.  It’s every citizen’s duty to defend the Constitution, but Trump had done nothing of the sort.  To date, he has done more to recognize the Constitution than any President I have seen in my adult life.  I remember Obama constantly assaulting the Constitution.  Bear in mind, he had more 0 to 9 decisions (including two Justices that HE appointed!) than any other President in history.

Transference/Projection:

Trump and his supporters are fascists that will be rioting in the street if he loses!  Well, it would seem that Hillary supporters are the ones that cannot accept the results of the election.  They are the ones that are rioting in the streets and hitting people and burning things.  Nothing says you are anti-fascist like beating the shit outta people that don’t share your beliefs.

Michael Flynn gave speeches to the Russians!  Yeah…and Bill gave speeches to them for millions of dollars in advance of 25% of the North American supply of uranium being sold to Russia.

The Left praised Bush for not getting involved in criticizing the next President.  Meanwhile, Obama sets up an organization and affiliates himself with groups funding the professional rioters.

The Left likes to portray Trump supporters as belligerent morons.  Yet, if they ever bring themselves to actually have a political discussion with me or any other Trump supporter, it quickly turns into the leftist just screaming.

The Left claims that Trump is delivering us into the hands of the Russians, and the Russians are trying to make us lose faith in our institutions.  Yeah, like California succeeding wouldn’t work against us.  No people can be conquered if they are united.  I have never seen us so fractured.  Instead of trying to come together at all, the Left is driving their base into a frenzy and sowing seeds of hatred among them.  What has Trump done to divide us anywhere on the scale of what I just mentioned?  In fact, considering the vile and extreme sentiments aimed at him constantly, his responses have been very mute and restrained.  To the regular people who spew bile at him, he has been completely silent.

Meanwhile, while all of this is going on, Trump’s administration is cracking down on Russia at the UN.  Mattis is getting NATO to actually fund more for their own defense.  Japan and Israel seem thrilled at our new President.  You can tell by their body language that when Trump says America stands behind their allies, they believe him–whereas Obama’s promises of support were mere bluff.  Just ask the Syrians what red-lines drawn by Obama meant.

What I fear is that the CIA really is the shadow-government that conspiracy theorists claim.  Do as they say, or they will destroy you.  This is dangerous.  If this is true, this means that no one is safe.  Also, there are protections in place to protect American citizens even if the CIA is tapping Russian diplomats (which they always are–just as we are always interfering in the elections of Russia, Israel, Canada, England…).  Given the time that these taps were happening, this means that Obama or one of his higher level minions spied on their political opponents.  You want to talk about Soviet Russia?

I don’t fear the Russians.  I have shot Russian ammunition.  After you do so, you will understand that Russia is no real threat.

If an operative shows up with plans for Trump to declare martial law, I will applaud them.  If someone assassinates a President that declares martial law, I will applaud them.  But what is happening here is that things are being leaked to undermine Trump’s Presidency.  They want him to look weak and stupid and hurt our international relations.  Why?  Because Trump is a danger to our country?  What seems to be a bigger danger to our country?  One man which is subject to the checks and balances that have kept us a free people for close to 250 years?  Or does it seem more likely that fomenting civil unrest, pitting countryman against countryman, undermining the trust of our allies, and emboldening our enemies?  Is having the world on fire worth making Trump look bad?  Bear in mind, you either want blood in the streets or Trump to lose in four years.  WOW!  Yey!  That’s all you will get if you are successful.  A weaker country.  That’s what you want.  Just for a better chance of beating one man at one election in four years.

To anyone that thinks I am being inconsistent, here is the difference between what is happening and Wiki-Leaks: Wiki-Leaks was a private group.  I also think they should be held accountable for their illegal acts.  That does not mean that I will not consider the information that is provided out of something that is obtained illegally.  Truth must be regarded, but those those broke the law must be held to account.  But this is a government agency working against its political opponents.  That is dangerous.  This is what makes totalitarian regimes.  If Flynn broke a law, he should face the punishment.  But I am MUCH more concerned about the government acting to suppress their political prisoners.

Welcome back Bob Beckel!

Posted by Troy on 16th January 2017 in Current Events, Entertainment

I hate Juan Williams.  There.  I said it.  In fact, there have been times I’ve avoided “The Five” just because I didn’t want to listen to him–and that’s factoring in the fact that I am secretly in love with Kimberly Guilfoyle and could stare at her all night..  Juan always comes across as a condescending ass.  While Bob Beckel may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer, he comes across as likable, if sometimes a bit of a buffoon, but I’ll take a likable buffoon over a condescending ass any day of the week when it comes to a show that’s meant mostly for entertainment value.  While his welcome back episodes was a little rough (the chemistry has not quite returned), I am glad that they have finally replaced Juan Williams.

Dr. Strange – A review

Posted by Troy on 5th November 2016 in Entertainment

This was a typical Marvel movie with a blend of action and comedy.  This is meant as praise, not insult.  Marvel consistently does a good job in delivering highly enjoyable movies.

The story – Basically, this is a good hero story that blends in strong elements of mysticism (Pathways to Mastership come to mind).  If witches and wizards attract you, you will probably like this angle.  It is also highly philosophical (think Captain America series like Winter Soldier and Civil War).  Without getting too deep in the weeds, the main philosophical arguments would be such things as relativism, utilitarianism, and Denotology.  However, these topics are just in the background–ie, the characters are driven by different philosophies, but it’s not some boring ethics essay.

The visuals – Bar none, this is the most visually stunning movie I have ever seen.  The imagination to create these effects is astounding, and many of the elements plays perfectly in 3D.  Without a doubt, also the best 3D I’ve ever seen.  I won’t say anything else that may ruin any of the effects.

The costume/makeup – Typically, I don’t comment about this kinda stuff, but good job!  Google Dr. Strange and look at his outfit…this could have come off as corny, but they made it look very cool in the movie.  They also did a great job on the eye makeup of the villains.

The soundtrack – What little bits I noticed were great.  However, the story and action kept me too focused to tell much about it.

Casting – All the actors did a great job, but great job of  casting Benedict Cumberbatch.  One, he did a great job of acting, but he also looks a good deal like the comic book version, which is a plus.  His baritone voice also worked well with the character.

I am giving this 5-stars (which translates into ”Dude, you gotta see this movie.”).

Glenn Beck is a Moron

Posted by Troy on 21st January 2016 in Current Events, Entertainment, Political

My father used to refer to him as a monetary patriot.  I always sort of agreed.  Of late, he has been trumpeting Ted Cruz and demonizing Donald Trump.  This is all fair game.  Clearly, he believes that Cruz is the better choice, and he has a lot of suspicions when it comes to Trump.  Again, this is all well and good.  However, it would appear that he has gotten tired of not being able to convince anyone based on the merits of his arguments.  He had a call-in show where-in he wanted to talk to Trump supporters.  So how did he spend the entire show?  Ridiculing Trump supporters.  How is this supposed to win people over?  It was rather disgusting to hear three people ravaging ordinary people.  How is this any different than what the Left does?  They always ridicule those who disagree with them such as calling climate change deniers “flat-earthers.”

Then Sarah Palin endorses Trump.  So what does Glenn Beck do?  Ridicules his “one-time” friend.  Again, this makes him look odious.  I’d never be friends with Glenn Beck at this point.  That boy would stab you in the back as soon as you are of no use to him or disagree with him.

In full disclosure, Rand Paul would be my first choice followed by Dr. Ben Carson.  Then I’d say Cruz, then Trump.  After that…eh…

I think that Glenn Beck would have been better served to talk about his ideas.  Or at the very least, have the balls to come out and say, “I endorse Ted Cruz.”  However, he doesn’t want to hurt his chances of getting the other candidates to come on his show, so he pretends like he is neutral.  As my dad said…a monetary patriot.

I will tell you why people like Trump: it’s because he says what people are thinking and he never backs down when he’s called out.  People that believe that way are used to being cowed by the media (etc).  What Trump is showing them is you can stand up to that, and it won’t destroy you.  Ridiculing them or Trump rather than discussing issues calmly and rationally is only going to drive people away and make them more adamant about Trump.  If he were to whine, “But I’ve been dooooing thaaaat!!!!”  I would say, “No matter.  Better to lose acting nobly than to resort to the tactics which you have hereto despised.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

Posted by Troy on 24th October 2015 in Entertainment

It’s been a while since I have done anything regarding entertainment.  I am giving my endorsement to the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.  You can catch this show on the CW on Mondays and 8:00 (or watch it online on Hulu or the CW website).

This is a really clever show with quick, witty jokes (think Mindy Project).  The musical aspects will be a hit or miss.  You will ever love them or hate them.  If you do hate them, just know that each show seems to have two short musical sections.  Even if this is not your speed, I have to say that the rest of the show is worth watching even if you have to “suffer through” the musical parts (although I love them).

The only bad thing I will say about this show is that it could fall under the weight of its own premise (as all shows eventually do).  I will enjoy the show until this happens.

Fear the Walking Dead

Posted by Troy on 27th September 2015 in Entertainment

Having enjoyed the Walking Dead, I gave Fear the Walking dead a try.

The first issue I had with the show is my general feeling about how unlikely it would be for zombies to win against humans.  Particularly worldwide.  Islands would be fine.  Mountain folk would be fine.  People in the tundra would be fine.  People in the desert would be fine.  Even people in rural areas would stand a good chance due to having plenty of space and guns.

The second issue I had was “Who am I rooting for here?”  My choices seemed to be a self-righteous blonde, a stupid teacher, a spoiled brat teen, a love-lorn teen, a druggie, and a few other unworthy characters.  I mean…what do I care if all of them got wiped out?

Tonight was the final straw though. The show has been portraying the military as being indifferent to the life of civilians.  This has increased to an outright desire to kill said civilians.  This makes no logical sense, and it just an eyeball-rolling, knee-jerk anti-establishment intellectualism.

Rare for me, I will not be watching the finale to a show that I’ve been watching.  I’m annoyed at their impugning the military.

A-Team and Drug Use

Posted by Troy on 22nd July 2015 in Entertainment

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAWcs5H-qgQ

I always liked this song, but I always thought it was about a past love running away for a richer man.  Then I watch the video and whoa, the lyrics take on a whole new meaning.  So the song is about a girl that’s addicted to crack.  I watched the video, and I thought, “What would I do if I saw such a person?”  Then I thanked God that I don’t live in a big city where these poor souls can be seen as a matter of course.

I am a Libertarian, and I am generally pro-legalization of non-violent crimes such as prostitution and drugs, but it’s images like this that do make me understand why people would want to make such things illegal.

Drugs are bad.  Counter-culture be damned.  Drugs are, indeed, bad.  To be clear, I am speaking of recreational drugs.  They offer no benefits.  They wreck your health.  They steal your money.  At what point, if any, does the addict look at what they are holding in their hand and understand that the drug is the one calling the shots.  Why would anyone choose to trade their freedom for this?  The high isn’t a true happiness.  It’s not true peace.  It’s a temporary fix.  It’s a patch on your problems.  It’s a momentary diversion.  There is nothing real or true or lasting to it.  So why do people keep throwing their lives away, their true happiness, to this false master?

I understand that not all drugs are addictive, but those drugs offer no true, life-enriching benefits either.  The only thing that really does that is living your life, and living it well.  It’s about making the right choices, even when they are hard.  It’s about learning to take the pleasure from the scent of a rose as you walk by and smile.

I cannot understand why anyone would start doing drugs.  Do they think that it will end differently?  Do they think they are strong enough to control it?  Take meth.  Meth destroys the brain’s ability to make dopamine–the chemical that makes you happy.  Have you seen pictures of people who have been hooked on meth?  It’s like someone sucked the light out of their eyes.  That light, was the joy of life.  Their dopamine levels have been cut down to a trickle.  They traded those momentary hits of happiness for a soulless existence, and that’s even assuming that they finally manage to break free and don’t simply die one day.

As Milton said, “The mind can make a Hell of a Heaven or a Heaven of a Hell.”  Mother Theresa said “Loneliness and the feeling of being unwanted is the most terrible poverty,” and “We think sometimes that poverty is only being hungry, naked and homeless.  The poverty of being unwanted, unloved and uncared for is the greatest poverty.  We must start in our own homes to remedy this kind of poverty.”

I believe that people choose to use drugs not out of fiscal poverty.  I believe it’s out of sheer desperation to fill a void in their lives which should be filled by love.  That love can be of God or of family or community or most anything.  People lived in caves, and they were happy.  Hollywood types fill their lives with fine things and big houses and fake friends and fancy vacations and have to latch on to drugs to find some brief feeling of happiness.  It can happen to anyone.

The Hmong  are a poor people.  They grew poppies to make heroin.  Very few ever used it themselves.  Why?  Because they loved their family, and being a drug addict brought dishonor to their family.

The answer isn’t laws and jail.  It’s not even education.  The answer is love, you damn fools.  Children grow up abandoned, and we wonder why they choose drugs and the dangerous life.  Children are ignored as their parents drink or do drugs themselves or spend their energies elsewhere, and we wonder why children turn to drugs?

I have sympathy for those who take a drug and get hooked.  Once it has it’s hooks in you, it’s hard to let go.  When a person that has an accident gets addicted to pain pills, it is unfortunate.  However, those who choose to use recreational drugs are not of that class.  They are chasing something else.  Their new friends are druggies, and they want friends, so…  They are so ____ing sad, so…  They are scared and alone, so…  They never choose to use drugs just for the sake of doing drugs, it is contingent to another goal, trying to fill that void.

I guess I’m just rambling…  Don’t do drugs, kids.

Top 10 Love Songs

Posted by Troy on 14th February 2015 in Entertainment

In honor of Valentine’s Day, I decided I would do a list of my top 10 favorite love songs.  I will say that this was much harder than I thought.  I will also say that I didn’t add anything out of obligation (such as Unchained Melody).  Here is my list:

10 – Go Love by Mark Knopfler. The melody of this song just sucks me in.   However, granted, it’s a bit of a self-ish love long.

9 – Reason to Believe by Mason Williams or Rod Stewart. Rod has the cooler version, but Mason’s has a frank honesty that generally comes from the original artist.  This goes the other direction.  It’s about a person so in love that no matter what his lover does to him, he always looks for that reason to believe that she loves him.

8 – Signal Fire by Snow Patrol.  There’s something about this song that grabs you.  I personally think it’s the opening.  Then it turns into a really cool song.

7 – Love Song by The Cure or Adele.  I prefer Adele’s version which is slower and more heartfelt.

6 – Lord, I’m Discouraged by the Hold Steady.  This is a pure love song.  It’s not romantic.  It’s about a man loving a girl with all his heart and being unable to help her.  The last line will break your heart unless you’re made of stone.

5 – Song for a Winter’s Night by Gordon Lightfoot.  I’ve always loved this song.  I always felt it was a very honest song.  Just a man missing his girl and wishing she were there.

4- If the World Should End from the Spiderman Musical.  You might think this is an odd choice, but there is something hauntingly beautiful about the lyrics and the melody.

3 – God Only Knows by the Beach Boys.  Again, I’ve always just felt like this was one of the purest love songs ever written.

2 – Heaven Can Wait by Meatloaf.  A beautiful song with beautiful lyrics.  ”All we have is time until the end of time.”

and finally

1 – Bernadette by the Four Tops.  This is what love should be.  If you go online and read the lyrics, it sounds like a love letter.

Michael Moore – Moral Coward

Posted by Troy on 27th January 2015 in Current Events, Entertainment

Michael Moore came out saying that snipers are cowards.  Of course, there was backlash.  So did he apologize?  No, instead he discussed that Jesus Christ would never be a sniper.  Well, shit, that’s true.  Ain’t it?  My, that’s some of that there college learnin’ I bet!  Yi-yuck!

This only proves the fact that Michael Moore is a coward.  As is Bill Maher and Howard Dean.  They also discussed now snipers are patriotic psychopaths.  After the other guests supported our snipers and discussed the American Sniper film in mature terms, Billy and Howie immediately started backtracking.

That is cowardly, and this is why I have no respect for people like them.  I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again.  You know who I respect?  Jerry Lee Lewis.  In the 1990s, he was asked to present an award for Best Female Artist.  He responded, “I can’t.  I don’t respect female artists.”  And everyone went crazy.  They DEMANDED he recant and apologize.  Jerry Lee made an official statement that was short and to the point.  It was to the effect, “What?  I don’t respect female artists.”  And everyone got on with their lives.  They got someone else to give the award.  The world didn’t end.

Do I agree with his point of view?  No.  But he held true to it.  With the entire world (basically) screaming at him and demanding he apologize, he simply refused and didn’t let what other people thought of him affect him.  That’s a guy I can respect.  How can you respect anyone that takes a stand and then starts sniveling and squirming when they met the least bit of resistance?  It is also a sign of someone who has taken their values merely upon what they believe will make them liked, and not someone that has hammered out their beliefs until their soul is finely tempered for the rigors of the life ahead.

Cowards.

Michael Moore is an Idoit

Posted by Troy on 21st January 2015 in Current Events, Entertainment, Political

Michael Moore is, of course, an idiot.  He has come out saying that snipers are cowards because they are shooting people from a hiding spot far away.

Of course, I’m sure the real issue is envy.  His capitalism movie grossed $14.3 million during it’s entire run.  American Sniper grossed $105 million in the opening weekend.

Taking the low-road, Michael Moore is never the person I would want guarding my back.  He is weaselly.  I doubt he has ever had to face real danger, real life-and-death, and not flinch.  I would imagine that he would run.

So, here is what Michael Moore does not understand.  Snipers have to travel through enemy territory, evading detection at every turn.  Once there, they have to disguise themselves and wait.  One mistake, and they could die.  They will wait in one place for days and days, waiting to take that one shot.  If they are caught, they will most likely be killed.  In less civilized areas (and when was the last time we fought in a civilized area?), they would likely be tortured to death because of the fear they strike into their hearts.  Snipers do not have brothers-in-arms guarding their back.  They do not have someone that can carry them off the field of battle (other than possibly their spotter; they usually work as a team).

Still think snipers are cowards?  Of course he does.  Why?  Because he’s an idiot that thinks very highly of himself.  Personally, I can’t have any respect for a rich communist.  Hypocrite.
